The National Snaffle Bit Association recently announced that the association has revamped how year-end award points are tabulated, beginning with the 2024 show year.

The new point system will add a base point for each entry the horse places above to a maximum of 11 entries, which will then be added to the traditional points awarded. The new point system will apply to year-end awards only. The traditional point system will be applied to official show records, Incentive Fund and Smart Points earnings calculations for all NSBA licensed horses.

“By revamping the previous year-end point system, NSBA is providing an additional incentive to exhibitors who continually support NSBA classes even when entry numbers are low,” said Stephanie Lynn, NSBA executive director.

Traditional NSBA Point System:
            1st    2nd    3rd    4th    5th    6th    7th    8th    9th 10th

New Year-End Base Point System:

6 entries            5    4    3    2    1

As an example, a horse that places first out of nine horses will receive one point plus eight base points, for a total of nine year-end points. The second-place horse will receive a half point for second place plus seven base points for a total of seven and a half year-end points. A horse would receive a maximum of 19 total year-end award points if it wins a class of 45 or more entries – nine traditional points plus ten base points.
