The National Snaffle Bit Association is pleased to welcome Bud Lyon, of Whitesboro, Texas, as the newest member of its prestigious Quarter Million Dollar Club. Bud reached the milestone of more than $250,000 in lifetime NSBA earnings exclusively in Ranch classes.
A native of Irvine, California, Bud was introduced to horses by his father, and soon shared his passion for them. Bud competed as a youth in All Around events and rode with Todd Crawford. He immersed himself in the show horse industry in California, where he attended Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo. He spent his summers riding with Hall Of Fame cow horse trainer Don Murphy and after graduating from college, he moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, to work with Reining and Reined Cow Horse trainer Randy Paul for seven years. Bud moved to Texas to start his own training business in 2008.
Bud has trained and shown NSBA and AQHA world champions including Chics Dream About Me, Lil Trash Talk, Crowd Pleaser, Gunner Got Out, Later Haters and Double Tapn, as well as futurity champions Ruff Shiner, FM Cottonwood, Chillinlikeavillain and Whizenboonsmal. However the horse that cemented his place in NSBA’s Quarter Million Dollar Club is NSBA and AQHA world champion and NSBA 2023 Horse Of The Year Sumac Gunnabeflashy. Bud has made an impressive run in NSBA earnings in just the past six years. He started competing in NSBA classes when NSBA first approved Ranch Riding events in 2019.
Bud and his wife, Kim, purchased their facility in Whitesboro, Texas, four years ago.
